Our New P-51D Mustang Restoration Project: Jane VI

About the North American P-51 Mustang

The P-51 Mustang is the aircraft that changed the course of history during WWII in air-to-air combat, and ultimately led the United States to victory. The fighter was more advanced than any other WWII fighter when it came to its high-performance, high-altitude, and long range ability. These characteristics enabled the fighter to escort heavy bomber formations all the way to Berlin and back. Prior to the mustang, this task was never completed. Today, every P-51 mustang that flies through the air carries thousands of stories - some told, but perhaps a lot more untold, but all keep history alive. That’s why we are so excited to announce this P-51D Mustang, serial number 44-72253, Jane VI, as one of our many restoration projects for sale. Jane VI has rich history that you can read more about here, and that history continues into restoration.

From Idaho Falls to Granite Falls

We purchased Jane VI in 2021 from Pacific Fighters. For one year, they continued restoration and built the wings, fuselage (partial), landing gear, and the vertical and horizontal stabilizers. In July of this year, these components were securely packaged up and hauled 1035.6 miles from Idaho Falls to Jane’s new temporary home in Granite Falls, Minnesota, at the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum. In August, we mated the wings to the fuselage section and mated the vertical and horizontal stabilizer, and then towed the aircraft for the first time from a storage hangar to the museum’s fighter hangar where it’s now on display in between two other mustangs (Sweet Revenge and Twilight Tear) for all to see.

What’s Next For Jane VI?

Jane VI is for sale! The project will remain on display until we finish the SB2C Helldiver or until someone buys the project, which is when we will continue the restoration.

Why is this restoration project so rare?

  • This project is in an advanced restoration stage with airworthy and award-winning standards.

  • It is a WWII Combat Veteran with over 150 hours of combat time in the European Theaters of Operations.

  • A dedicated team of professionals is committed to one project at a time to ensure a timely restoration completion.
